Glenn Anton “Doc” Rivers (born October 13, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American former professional basketball player from Marquette University who played point guard in the National Basketball Association notably for the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, and San Antonio Spurs. After retiring from the league, he became a coach and is currently head coach of the Boston Celtics. Rivers was known for his defense while playing in the NBA. His skills as floor general and point guard helped him transition into a coach following his playing career.

Rivers took over the Boston coaching position in 2004 after spending a year working at the American Broadcasting Company as a commentator for The NBA on ABC. Prior to his job with the Celtics, he coached the Orlando Magic for more than four NBA seasons. Rivers won the Coach of the Year award during his years with the Magic.

His son Jeremiah Rivers is currently a freshman guard at Georgetown University.

Doc was drafted in the second round of the 1983 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. He played his first 8 seasons with the Hawks before having stints with the Clippers, Knicks and Spurs. Doc averaged 10.9 points, 5.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds a game in his 13 NBA seasons. Of his 13 seasons Doc advanced to the playoffs in 10 of them.

Doc started his coaching career with the Orlando Magic where he coached for 4+ seasons and compiled a 171-168 record including three playoff berths. He is now employed as the head coach of the Boston Celtics. He also served as the assistant coach for the USA Men's Basketball team that won the gold medal at the 2001 Good-Will Games.

• Doc played for the 1982 USA Men's Basketball team during the FIBA World Basketball Championships in Cali, Columbia. Not only was he the leading scorer for the US team, but he was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Glenn “Doc” Rivers' was a three-year starter from 1980 to 1983 for the men’s basketball team and led MU to NCAA Tournament twice and NIT once. Highlighted by his half-court heave to defeat No. 5 Notre Dame in 1981, Rivers put together arguably the best freshman season in Marquette history. At the time of his induction he still held freshman records for scoring, scoring average, field-goals made, field-goals percentage and steals. One of the toughest defenders and best distributors of the basketball Marquette has ever seen, Rivers ranks among the school leaders in steals and assists. Rivers was a first team Converse All-American in 1982 and was an honorable mention Associated Press and United Press International All-American in 1983. Drafted in the second round of the 1983 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks, Rivers averaged 10.9 points, 5.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds over his 13-year playing career. On February 14, 2004, Marquette retired Rivers No. 31 jersey. Inducted in 2004 and sponsored by Craig Kasten.
