+===== Free-Throw Advantage Helps Golden Eagles To Easy Win =====
+Enjoying a sizable free-throw advantage has been a trademark of Buzz Williams-coached teams at Marquette University.
 +
+It's been more of the same this season for the Golden Eagles and that's really no accident.
 +
 +It's what they do.
 +
+Marquette made 17 of 29 free throws (58.6%) in its 88-56 victory over Jacksonville on Monday night at the Bradley Center, while the Dolphins were 5 of 9 (55.6%) from the foul line.
 +
+The Golden Eagles (6-0) led by nine at halftime after making 12 of 20 free throws (60.0%). Jacksonville (2-4) did not get to the foul line in the first half.
 +
+"There are certain things that we monitor that are not on this stat sheet," said Williams. "Like the weirdo that I am, I teach it to our guys in a way that they understand the priority behind it and the importance of it.
 +
+"I love football and I love football coaches and one of the things we do, we call it whiteboard stats. In addition to our whiteboard stats, we have special teams and one of those special teams is free throw makes versus free throw attempts.
 +
+"We didn't make as many as we needed to make. If we would have shot a higher percentage, we would have had 21 free throw makes. If you have 21 free throw makes per game, you're going to have a minimum of 50 paint touches. If you have that many free throw makes and that many paint touches per game, it probably means that you're scoring 20% to 28% of your points in transition which is all trending in ways we want to play. One thing is connected to another."
 +
+Marquette's frequent visits to the foul line Monday were not a one-night thing. In its first five games, Marquette was 106 of 143 (74.1%) from the foul line compared with 52 of 84 (61.9%) for the opposition. Since the start of the 2008-'09 season and going into the start of this season, the Golden Eagles had shot 2,648 foul shots compared with 1,844 for opponents.
 +
+"That's part of what we do," said senior Jae Crowder. "That's part of how we play. Attack off penetration. It's very important to what we do."
 +
+Crowder sank 4 three-pointers and scored 23 of his 27 points in the second half to lead Marquette, which shot 58.5%. Darius Johnson-Odom added 19 points, while Todd Mayo scored 14 points. Vander Blue finished with nine rebounds and seven assists.
 +
+Marquette limited Jacksonville to 32.3% shooting in the second half and 34.4% in the game.
 +
+"We were just trying to capitalize on their mistakes defensively," Crowder said of his second-half offensive outburst. "We caught them switching up here and there and we tried to capitalize on it."
 +
+Jacksonville shot its first free throw when forward Delwan Graham converted a three-point play with 15:40 left in the second half to trim Marquette's lead to 45-35. The Golden Eagles had shot 22 free throws at that point.
 +
+Marquette then blew the game open as Crowder drained a pair of threes as part of an 8-0 run that put the Golden Eagles ahead by 18 with 14:30 left.
 +
+The Golden Eagles had their hands full with Jacksonville in the first half, but they attributed part of that to the fact that they hadn't played in a week.
 +
+"I thought we were a lot better (in the second half)," said Williams. "Other than finals week, that was the longest break we've had and the longest break we will have. I didn't think we were quite as rusty as I thought we'd be, but I didn't think we were as sharp as we needed to be. I thought we were a lot better in the second half in a lot of ways but energy and being sharp, for sure."
 +
+Marquette scored the final seven points of the first half, including a three by Johnson-Odom at the buzzer.
 +
+"Offensively that (spurt) helped because we felt we were slow on the offensive end the first half," said Crowder.
