High School Career

Davis averaged 26 points and 17 rebounds at Chico High which made him the leader in both categories for Superior California (Sacramento to the Oregon border). He was named All-Northern California and selected to the Eastern Athletic League All-Conference team for two years (1981 and 1982). Also, he was a member of the Northern California All-Star Team.

Davis was a high-jumper on the school's track team.

He committed to San Diego State and attended the institution for one semester before transferring to Butte College (CA).

Butte College (JUCO)

Davis earned All-American distinction by the California Community College Basketball Coaches' Association receiving the second highest number of votes after averaging 18.2 points and 10.7 rebounds for Butte College, the #1 ranked team in the state.

He led Butte to 29 straight wins but lost to Santa Barbara City College in the state semi-finals, 66-54.

Davis was named MVP of the Lassen Tournament as well as members of the following all-tournament teams: Napa Valley Classic and Butte Classic.

He scored 40 points against Chabot and collected 41 blocked shots in a five-game period during November and December in 1983.

Basketball Times listed Mike as one of the Top 30 Junior College players “that can make a significant contribution”.

Marquette Career

Majerus on Mike Davis:
“Mike runs the court well and is a good passer. He has to learn that at his size, rebounding and defense are the two most important aspects of the game. I think he;s going to bother some people with his timing, his long arms and his height. He;s more of a perimeter player than an inside player, and his contributions should come from playing food defense and making opponents contest their shots. I'm looking forward to the dimension of a 6-10 guy who can flat out shoot and can pas extremely well. He has been extraordinarily well-coached and is also a well-liked player.”

Personal

Father, Gerald, played basketball at Chico State.
