+Ray Kuffel joined the Marquette Basketball team in 1941, and made an immediate impact, leading the team in scoring during the 1941-42 season with 8.4 PPG.  He again lead the team in scoring in 1942-43 with 8.9 ppg.  Expected to be a big contributor as a junior in 1943-44, he instead was drafted into the Army and stationed in South Bend, Indiana.

+Kuffel was drafted in Round 20 of the 1944 NFL Draft by the then Chicago Cardinals.  He chose to return to school at Notre Dame, rather than join the NFL.  After his playing career at Marquette was over, he joined the Buffalo Bills of the All American Football Conference, and early competitor of the NFL.  He played for three seasons in the AAFC with three different teams.
