Randy Brown

Randy Brown was named an assistant coach at Marquette on May 24, 1989 and helped re-establish the rich tradition of Warrior basketball. Randy and MU coach Kevin O'Neill both worked at Arizona and were reunited again in Milwaukee.

“Randy is a great organizer and a great detail person. He really puts forth a tremendous amount of organizational work that benefits our players and staff. He runs our basketball camps and will lend a lot to our on-campus activities. Randy runs our conditioning program in the fall,” Coach O'Neill said. “Overall, he is a hard-working coach who will put in the long hours to get the work done.”

Brown is an Iowa native (Fort Dodge) and a 1981 graduate of the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. He played two seasons of basketball at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, before transferring to Iowa in 1979. He played basketball, golf and ran cross country at Ford Dodge High School, graduating in 1976.

Brown had high school coaching stops at Regina High School in Iowa City (1979-80), West Branch, Iowa High (1981-82) and Pleasant Valley, Iowa High School (1982-85).

In 1985-87, Brown was a graduate assistant coach at the University of Arizona and worked on the staff with Lute Olson and O'Neill. The Wildcats won the 1986 Pac-10 Championship and were NCAA participants both years. Randy also assisted in preparing the 1987 USA Gold Medal World Championship basketball team that trained in Tucson, Arizona.

Brown earned a Master of Arts Degree in Educational/Athletic Administration from the University of Arizona in 1987 and was named an Assistant Coach at Drake University in Des Moines (1987-88). He spent one year with the Bulldogs before moving to Grand Forks, North Dakota serving as an assistant Coach at the University of North Dakota (1988-89). He was also a Health, PE and Recreation Department Instructor at UND. While at North Dakota, Brown and his wife, Mary Joe, celebrated the birth of their first child, Meredith. Randy and hiw wife were married in June of 1984.
“The opportunity to work with Kevin at a school with Marquette's tradition is a great position for me,” said Brown. “I want to work with and be involved with people in a program who work hard and will put in the time needed to build a top twenty team. I had the opportunity to work with Kevin at Arizona and it's great to be working with him again at Marquette.” ===== Post-Marquette ===== After leaving Marquette, Brown coached briefly at Miami (OH), before eventually taking the head coaching position at Stetson University for two seasons. Randy then went to work as an assistant at Iowa State under Larry Eustachy. Brown lost two of his four daughters to a previously undiagnosed, rare genetic disorder and struggled emotionally with the loss, undergoing treatment for depression afterwards. Brown resigned from Iowa State during the 2002-2003 season after his arrest for violating federal child pornography charges. Brown ultimately pleaded guilty to the charges and served time in a federal prison. He now runs his own coaching web site and helps aspiring college coaches make it to the next level. ===== Personal ===== * Birthdate: August 7, 1957 *Randy Brown's Web Site * Yahoo articles written by Brown
