Tim Buckley

Tim Buckley was hired in May 2007 as Marquette's Directory of Basketball Operations. This position was Tim's second at Marquette. On April 12, 1999 Tom Crean hired Tim Buckley as his top assistant, but Buckley left Marquette after the 1999-2000 season to take the head coaching position at Ball State. Tim is a native of Aurora, Ill.

Buckley earned a master’s degree in physical education from Bemidji State in 1988. He received a bachelor’s degree in communication from Bemidji State in 1986. He was a two-year starter for the Beavers.

Buckley is married to the former Shannon Marsh and the couple has a daughter, Meredith.

Date Position
1985-1988 Assistant coach at Bemidji State.
1989-1993 Head coach at Rockford College in Rockford, Ill. He compiled a 50-52 record and reached the 50-win mark faster than any other coach in school history. As the NCAA's youngest coach in 1989-90, he led the Regents to a 16-9 mark, their first winning season in seven campaigns.
1993-1994 Assistant coach at UW-Madison. The Badgers posted an 18-11 record and the school's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 47 years.
1994-1999 Associate head coach at Ball State. The Cardinals participated in the 1995 NCAA Tournament after winning the Mid-American Conference tournament title. Ball State also earned an NIT berth in 1998 after capturing the MAC regular-season crown. As the Cardinals' recruiting coordinator, the school's 1998 class was ranked first in the nation among mid-major programs.
1999-2000 Top assistant coach at Marquette.
2000-2006 Head coach at Ball State - 98-87 record. Buckley led Ball State to an 18-12 mark in his first season and the Cardinals posted 23 wins in his second year a the helm. In 2005 he led Ball State to an 11-3 home record as the Cardinals led the Mid-American Conference in attendance. In 2002 Buckley led Ball State to the Mid-American Conference West Division title and a berth in the National Invitation Tournament. Ball State won its first round game at home and collected wins at St. Joseph's and Louisiana State before losing in the round of eight. The Cardinals placed second in the Maui Invitational that season, reaching the title game with back-to-back wins over third-ranked Kansas and fourth-ranked UCLA. 2006-2007 Assistant coach at Iowa.
2007-2008 First hired as Director of Basketball Operations at Marquette, then moved to the Assistant Coach position after Jason Rabadeaux took a leave of absence.
