December 16, 1961- The Warriors wound up their weekend in the Sunflower State in the same manner they began it- by losing. The victor this time was the University of Kansas; the location, Manhattan, Kansas; the score, 76-62; chief contributing factors to the loss, a pair of deadly, long-range shooting guards by the names of Jerry Gardner and Nolen Ellison.

Marquette led twice in the early stages of the contest and pulled to within three points late in the second half. But the veteran Kansas guards, who scored 47 points between them, 25 by Gardner and 22 by Ellison, proved too much for Marquette to handle.
