Marquette finished the season ranked second in both the UPI and AP polls, holding opponents to 62.7 points per game (2nd in the nation). Marquette becomes the seventh (13 total) school in NCAA history to go undefeated in the regular season, only to lose in the post-season. Their single-season winning percentage (.966) ranks 20th in NCAA History and was second-best in 1970-71, behind the UCLA Bruins, who had a mark of 29-1.
