Crawford led his team to back-to-back appearances in the regional finals as a junior and senior. Comstock was 41-7 during Crawford's junior and senior campaigns, winning back-to-back conference and district titles. He averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds as a junior and 26 points and 11 rebounds during his senior campaign. He was named the MVP of his high school team twice and was coached by John Holms. Chris was also a three-year member of the honor roll.

Crawford was selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the second round (51st overall) of the 1997 NBA Draft. Chris played in the NBA for seven seasons, all with the Hawks. In his NBA career, Crawford played in 252 games and scored a total of 1,654 points. Knee injuries forced him out of the league but not before an attempted comeback with the Nets in July 2005; however, the Nets did not sign him.
Crawford was selected by the Houston Astros in the 1994 amateur draft.
He began pitching for the the Gulf Coast Astros of the Gulf Coast League in 1995. In 1996, he started off the season with Gulf Coast but was promoted to pitch for the Auburn Doubledays in the New York-Penn League.
