High School Career
Blanton starred on North's 1964 top ranked team which was runner-up in the state tourney. His 16.1 ppg average helped North to a 24-2 record and in the state tourney, he hit 17 of 23 field goal attempts in racking up 36 points against Waterloo.
Marquette Career
Blanton averaged 11.2 points per game as a sophomore, during the 1965-66 season.
He and Brad Luchini were the only married players on the 1967-68 team.
