West Aurora High-School

Highly regarded newcomer who brings impressive credentials with him to the Marquette program … Played two seasons at West Aurora High School under the tutelage of Gordie Kerkman … His senior campaign saw him averaged 20.9 points and connected on 60 percent of his field goal attempts, including 40 percent from three-point range … Guided his team to a 25-3 record … Was named by USA Today as national prep player of the week (Feb. 17) after averaging 29 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in helping his prep team to a pair of wins … Finished second in the voting for the 2002-03 Mr. Basketball Award in the state of Illinois … Ranked as the No. 40 player in the country by TheInsidersHoops.com … Ranked as the No. 38 player nationally by ESPN.com … Two-time Player of the Year in the DuPage Valley Conference … Garned first-team all-state honors as a junior and senior … Started for the West Team in the EA Roundball Classic played on Mar. 31 in Chicago … His West Aurora prep team was ranked as among the top squads in the state for the majority of 2002-03 … As a junior, he averaged 23.0 points and 9.0 boards per contest in helping his team to a 23-8 won-lost mark that included a berth in the round of 16 in the Illinois state tournament … Played AAU ball for the Illinois Fire … Considered North Carolina, Oklahoma, DePaul, Auburn Missouri and Boston College before deciding upon Marquette.

2003-2004

mason_game_winner_louisville.jpgAveraged 9.0 points and 4.5 rebounds during his freshman campaign … Career average at Marquette in 61 games (44 starts) of 10.4 points per game … Started the final 17 games of his freshman year … Named Marquette’s Most Improved Player after his freshman season and a member of Conference USA’s All-Freshman team.

Made one of the biggest game-winning plays in Marquette history against Louisville on March 6, 2004 at the Bradley Center. Mason hit a game-tying shot from the baseline with 2.6 seconds left and was fouled by Louisville's Alhaji Mohammed. He calmly hit the free throw with 0.8 seconds on the clock to cinch the victory for Marquette. He later talked about the moment in a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article: “I wanted to make a big play…It's something you dream about when you're young. You sit there and think, 'Zero seconds left. I'm on the free-throw line. Big shot.' You think about it growing up all the time, and to actually be put in that position was incredible. I came through in the clutch.”

2004-2005

Started 28 of 31 games, averaging 30.4 minutes a contest, 11.9 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game as a sophomore … Scored a career-high 26 points at Oakland and had a double-double with 10 rebounds … Had his other double-double earlier in the season when he had 22 points and a season-best 13 rebounds in win over Sam Houston State.

At the end of the 2004-05 season, he decided to transfer to LSU.

Sat out due to NCAA transfer rules, but was able to practice with the team during the season.

2006-2007

Played in 31 of the 32 games with 14 starts … Averaged 19.2 minutes per game, 5.4 points per game and 3.0 rebounds a game … Best two games came on back to back nights during the LSU tournament, scoring 14 against Wright State (12/27) and 13 against Mississippi Valley (12/28) … Completed the tournament by scoring 11 against Samford (12/29) … For the three games was 14-of-19 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the arc … Had five double figure scoring games … Best rebounding effort as seven against Florida (2/24) … Shot 42.7 percent from the floor (61-of-143) and 70 percent from the free throw line (35-of-50).

2007-2008

Only played in seven games due to illness and eligibility … Averaged 3.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 17.1 minutes per game in those contests … High point effort was in his final game as a Tiger against Mississippi State (1/9) when he scored seven points … Had high of six rebounds against Tulane (1/2) … Finished the LSU portion of his career with five games in double figures, all during the 2006-07 season.
