ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – Joe Chapman scored 17 points off the bench and Jerel McNeal added 15 as Marquette defeated Eastern Washington 83-73 Wednesday in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.

A free throw by Jake Beitinger with 1:35 remaining brought Eastern Washington within two points, 70-68.

But McNeal answered with a tip-in and the Golden Eagles (2-1) closed out the game hitting 11-of-12 free throws.

Poor foul shooting doomed Eastern Washington (1-1). The Eagles shot just 18-for-34 from the free throw line.

Marquette trailed most of the first half but finished with a 10-0 run to take the lead. McNeal completed a three-point play with three seconds left and the Golden Eagles led 34-32.

The second half featured five ties and three lead changes. Marquette took the lead for good with 5:59 remaining when Chapman hit a 3-pointer from the baseline after a feed from Dominic James.

Chapman shot 5-for-8 from 3-point range. James finished with 14 points.

Beitinger led Eastern Washington with 17 and Rodney Stuckey added 16.

Marquette will face Oral Roberts on Friday in the semifinals. Eastern Washington will take on Southern California in the consolation bracket.
