The Al McGuire Center was once again filled to capacity for the annual Marquette Madness event, which provided Marquette fans their first glimpse at the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

New this year was the participation of the volleyball team, which opened the night’s festivities with a 3-0 victory of Georgetown in BIG EAST action. The standing-room only crowd for the match set a new school attendance record.

The women’s team was introduced first, complete with pyrotechnics, followed by a quick shooting competition and scrimmage. MU’s roster features just one newcomer, Milwaukee native Sarina Simmons.

The men’s squad also conducted introductions, with the help of the two large video screens setup for the occasion and went right into the dunk contest. Junior Joe Fulce claimed the championship with an assist from Maurice Acker. Acker lofted an assist from the concourse level and Fulce slammed it home with one hand after it bounced on the court.

MU capped the evening with a brief scrimmage and welcomed the fans to the floor for a post-match autograph session. Lazar Hayward’s bucket with .6 seconds left proved to be the game winner for the White team.
