Marquette cruised to their 1,400th victory in school history, with their 36th consecutive victory (without a loss) against UW-Milwaukee, extending their NCAA record for most consecutive victories in a series without a loss. UW-Milwaukee sports writers contended Marquette was overrated coming into the game, but their national ranking proved not to be a factor in the outcome of the game, as they cruised to a 100-80 victory over their cross-town opponent.

Although UW-Milwaukee fans and members of the media indicated this series could easily out-draw most of Marquette's other non-conference opponents, bringing in as many as 20,000 fans, those numbers did not play out. The announced attendance at this game was just over 15,000 fans, roughly the same as Marquette's game against Savannah State last season.
