Analysis

ESPN Evaluations April, 2009: Joseph has very good quickness that he uses to get to the bucket almost every time he looks to attack the rim. However, he needs to continue to learn to play the game at his own pace and not let opposing point guards speed him up into turnovers and bad shots. Joseph has range that extends out to the 3-point line and he needs to continue to focus on finishing his shot by holding his follow-through and backing out of his shot prematurely. He also has a solid middle game aided by his consistent mid-range, pull-up jump shot. Joseph also does a very good job of leading the defensive charge for his team and pressuring opposing point guards.

January, 2009: Joseph is a talented combination guard that plays more like a shooting guard than a true point. He has great size and is a terrific open three point shooter when his feet are set. Joseph is an excellent ball handler and passer that hits the receiver right on the numbers with a crisp and clean pass. Although he does not possess great speed and quickness he is fast with the ball and has great burst of speed in transition and when he attempts to beat his man off the dribble. Joseph can get to the rim in transition and can finish with his size and length. He can be affective at the point but seems to be more comfortable when playing off the ball when he can sprint the wing and attack as a second ball handler instead of the primary. Joseph is a good on ball defender because he understands how to use his length and is capable of defending all three perimeter positions. Overall a terrific all around guard.

December, 2008: Joseph is a pass first lead guard that can run the team and has the ability to score when needed. He has good size and uses it to his advantage to pass out of double teams or full press traps. He has a tight handle and he can make a scoring play or find the open man at the end of clock or must score situation at the end of the game. Joseph is a good athlete that pushes the ball in transition. He scores mostly off the dribble with mid range pull up or step back jumpers driving to his left to protect the ball from the defense. He is very steady and under control although he has great burst of speed and a quick first step when it is time to make a play.

November, 2008: This high level scoring point can do it all. He scores when his team needs him to, dishes out passes that lead to baskets and rebounds down from the perimeter on the defensive end. His range on his jumper is well out to 22 feet with accuracy as he makes open or contested 3's consistently. His long range shot displays a great economy of motion where there is very little wasted effort as he prepares and releases his jumper. In transition he has the confidence and ability to stop behind the arc and knock it down or take it all the way to the rim with a strong finish. From his dribble penetration Joseph sees the assist on his way to the basket and delivers the ball where his teammates can easily catch it and score. He uses his excellent athletic ability and good size to be a staunch defender. He is slowly converting his game from a scoring guard to a point point guard as he creates and distributes effectively for his teammates.

June, 2008: Joseph owns one of the best pure jump shots of anyone in the class of 2010. Smooth as silk with the ball and rarely has any wasted effort. Cory has good size and is an excellent athlete. He handles very well against pressure and has the ability to play some point guard in a pinch. He is best suited, however, for the off guard position because he can get off the three while being closely guard and still make about 40% of his attempts. Range is of no issue. Older brother Devoe is headed to Minnesota and Cory will be better. High-major lock that can be recommended to any program in the country.
