John Sisk Jr. John Martin Sisk III

Position: DB Number 27 Height: 6-3 Weight: 195 lbs.

Born: July 15, 1941 in Milwaukee, WI (Age 70) College: Marquette, Miami (FL) (school history) Drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 29th round (232nd overall) of the 1963 AFL Draft. Drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 17th round (234th overall) of the 1963 NFL Draft.

Played in 3 games for the 1964 Chicago Bears.

John Sisk, Jr. (DB-FB/HB) (#17- Future, 234th overall by the Chicago Bears in 1963, also chosen #29- Future, 232nd OV by the Dallas Texans in 1963) after transferring from Marquette University when that school dropped football in 1960. If a player is transferring from a discontinued or non-sponsored sports program, he is not normally required to sit out a year according to an established exception to the required sitting-out of a year as a transfer student. It is not clear if Sisk jumped ship at Marquette after his 1959 freshman year there (knowing Marquette was quitting football after the ’60 season) to transfer to Miami, and therefore the exception didn’t apply as it would have a year later, meaning Sisk would have had to sit out a year at the U in 1960 under this scenario. Perhaps Sisk remained at Marquette through 1961 despite the fact that they didn’t have a team that season and temporarily gave up the game, before transferring to Miami to resume his college career in 1962. Perhaps Sisk was an injury redshirt - possibly at Marquette in 1960 as a would-be sophomore, or at UM in 1961 as a would-be junior. In any case, Sisk lettered at UM in 1962-63 and was taken as a future after his ’62 season. John Sisk, Jr. spent a three years with the Chicago Bears organization as a backup strong safety from 1964-66, although he only appeared in three games total, all as a rookie in 1964. John (Johnny) Sisk, Sr. and John Sisk, Jr. are the only known father and son combo to play for the same NFL Coach – Papa Bear George Halas. His daughter played hockey for the University of New Hampshire.
