Following three straight road losses (Michigan, Chicago and Northwestern), Michigan State returned hom for a thrilling win over Marquette. It was the first match-up within the newly-formed Central Intercollegiate Conference (Marquette, Notre Dame, Butler, and Michigan State). With the Hilltoppers leading 30-28, Michigan State's Monty Hood dribbled the length of the floor and tossed in the tying basket with two second remaining.

Then, within the five-minute overtime, Marquette was outscored 5-3, for the 35-33 victory.
