Thouh he attended two different high schools and a preparatory school during his prep career, Brennan never averaged less than 14 points per game.

As a junior for Myers Park High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, Brennan led his team to an 18-5 record and league title. He also scored 32 points in a game.

Buchmann was the second leading scorer and tied for best in rebounding with Earl Tatum. He also led the team in field goal percentage and had a season-high 26 points against Rock Valley Junior College. Buchmann also turned in other impressive offensive performances: 24 points versus UW-Parkside J.V. and Northern Michigan J.V., as well as 23 points against UW-Oshkosh and Olive-Harvey Junior College.
